Two millions’ worth of diamonds are being exhibited in the South African building at the Festival of Empire, and extraordinary precautions are taken to ensure their safety. Speaking at Hastings, Lord Brassey announced that he was a convert to Woman’s Suffrage. Twenty-nine convicts who were entrained at Penn for Siberia attacked and wounded the warders. Eleven of the convicts succeeded in effecting their escape. Saturday's League matches at Sydney were characterised by roughness, and four of the players in the senior matches were ordered off the field. The Australian cadets received a great oration on landing at Durban, and were provided with a special train to visit the Natal battlefields.
