CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
KEW PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH. Tho Kew Primitive Methodist Church celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary yesterday. The pulpit was occupied m tho morning by tho pastor of the church (tho Rev. E. Drake), who chose as his subject ‘ Work and Warfare,’ the text being ischemia hj iv.. 17-18. Tho work of Nchcmiah when building the walls of Jerusalem was treated as a parable of tho work of tho Church in tho present day. The Church must bo built up in her faith in order that she may protect herself from the inroads of evil. Tho Church must lro defended from her foes, but she will host defend herself by aggress: i./ Territory must, bo won for the Redeemer's Kingdom. To this onthere must lx; alertness, watchfulness, (inconstant readiness?. These mint he unite with fellowship in service ami in trust ii God. Tho preacher pointed out how th outstanding evils of tho time might b. conquered if only the members of Christ'; Church were united in .service. Tin preacher concluded with an earnest appea lor individual consecration to work am warfare. During the service the choir ren dered the anthem ‘0 won-hip the Lord.’
In the afternoon the scholars of tho San day school and junior choir rendered soli.. . choruses, and recitations. The service wa< in charge of the Rev. J. 15. Suckling, win gaves an addro.s on ‘Nails.’ The address proved must interesting, enchaining the at tention of the children from beginning U end. Lessons were drawn tlnu children like nails, should bo useful, not ornamental They should try to he .straight and throng and they should fasten themselves in Jceu. Christ. Safe in His arms a’! would find refuge, and would he sale for cveimore. In the evening the Tlcv. 15. 11. Wylie of St, lulda Methodist Church, was tin preacher, and baml an able disu.im-o on Philip, ii., 12-lii: "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Emphasis was laid on the fact that nlvalhn is not only deliverance from punishment. hut from sin. Wo must work ou: in conduet that which God imparts an exporienc:. and that is why the Church exists. At the service special music was rendered by tin choir, Mr J. Davidson conducting and Miss Tuck presiding at the organ. The amnia! tea and concert will he held on Wednesday, when reports ol the year's work wi.il be read. Thero will he u good musical pro gramme, and addresses by various ministers will be given.
