CHILDREN AND MARRIAGE
[From Our Lady Correspondent.] LONDON, March 24. A number of poor London boys from nine to thirteen years of age were a little while ago invited to write essays on “What kind of woman would you like to marry when yon grow up?’’ and some of the answers are astonishing. Says one confirmed bachelor of eleven : I do not want to marry at all, hut if I did 1 should .marry a girl who is honest, truthful, and hard-working. I should not like to marry a girl who is proud and selfish. I should not many a girl who wore an ankle or a hobble skirt, but one who would dress plainly. Some of the other opinions are; Some people can judge by looking into a person’s face. I am going to marry one that I think is honest and goodworking, and is not proud. When I come home trout my work ray wife would always get my meals ready at tho proper time, and send the children to school neat and tidy. Sometimes a man marries a woman because she has got money. I agree with him, but not if the woman is dishonest and mistrustful. I should like to marry a jolly and comical young woman, because she can comfort me when I am disheartened.— (Aged twelve.) 1 would like to many a poor girl and myself be rich. I am afraid I should bo a bit strict, hut we must be a bit strict to keep ourselves up to tha mark.— (Aged eleven.) Marriage (says a masculine wiseacre of thirteen) is a matter that requires plenty of good hard thinking out on the part of both man and woman. Some women have a craving after certain things, such as showy clothes and trying to be nice and dainty, and yet are very vulgar and nasty at the same time. I should not want her to be “stuck up,” as some people say, but at tho same time I would not want her to bo slow.
