First-class acceptances have been received for Wednesday's trotting meeting, which starts at 12.15. The chief stables in Canterbury and Otago are well represented, some of the best horses in the Dominion being engaged. Fast times and interesting racing should be the order of the day. Mr Edwards, the trainer and rider of Revenue, has not yet definitely decided which day the horse will be sent against the mile record (2imin llfy). If the track is suitable on Wednesday tie will try on that day; if not, on "Saturday next. The trial will take place at about 2.30. BILLIARDS. In the match at Sydney of 14,000 up between Fred Lindrum, the local champion, and Williams, English professional, the former scored his points when his opponent's register was 8,402. The winner's score included a record break of 706. NEW WALKING RECORD. W. Murray at Melbourne Exhibition Grounds last week completed two miles from scratch in 13min 57fsec, thus supplanting A. 0. Barrett's 14min 27j-sec, and beating the Australasian record of A. Brady (Auckland), 14mm 12|sec. GEORGE GRAY'S NEW RECORD. The sporting writer of the London ' Standard ' says that George Gray, in the match against Cecil HaveTson, eclipsed all his previous per form an ces with an unfinished break of 2,196, which included a new record off the red of 1,620. As each hundred was ticked off the excitement grew, until every soul in the building 6at tense and silent, the only sound being that of the marker's voice, which trembled with emotion. He was unable quite to control himself as the coveted goal came nearer and nearer. In Gray's demeanor, however, there was not the slightest evidence that anything out of the common was happening. Of all the people there he wa6 the coolest and most unconcerned. For him there was no crowd —nothing but the green cloth and a red ball. Never for an instant did there appear to be any possibility of failure, for Gray was manipulating the red ball with a perfection of strength that was almost uncanny. When at length Gray's score was called at 6,804, and the break reached exactly 2,000, the pent-up feelings of the spectators broke loose. Gray, sen., embraced his wonderful boy, and the spectators from various parts of the building crowded Tound to shake him by the hand. Gray took his congratulations with the same wonderful calm, which is, perhaps, his chief characteristic, and when he returned to the table to resume he was just as steady as if the unfinished effort had been a mere twenty. The remaining interest centred in the possibility of hie going to his final figures without breaking down. Nothing occurred to mar his progress until he wanted 20 points. Then difficulties cropped up, but a series of wonderful shots, particularly the penultimate shot, a long run through loser, captured everybody.
