MINING.
There is no news yet about the working of tho new Morgan suction dredge. The first wash-up was to take place three weeks ago. People aro asking whether the wash-up did take place, and if it did, whether it was a good one or not ? Those from whom information might be obtained maintain an inscrutablo silence concerning the prospects of the dredge. Work at the Island Block claim has been resumed. There is a likelihood of operations having to be suspended on account of lack of water. Reporting on Tuesday the manager stated that the '. weather was oxcossivoly hot; the water about done. Operations might have to cease the following, night (Wednesday). Otago No. 2 dredge had a good. inn last week, and came across deeper ground. . The dredge-master is, however, unable to say as yet whether ho has got on to tho ' bottom. '' Last woek tho Sandy Point dr :dg3 ! crossed the face only twice, on accon.it of the ground being deep right across. Th> ' face remains very line, loose overburden I falling in frequently causing a lot of baling. Prospects are poor for the amount of 1 stuff put through. 1 At the Waikaia claim thero is no altera- ; tion to report in the workings of tho face ■ or the values of the wash. The bottom consists of maori and clay. Otago No. dredge had a short run owing to the elevation buckets parting. ' The ground keeps about the 6ame. In their annual report the directors of tho Karaunui Gold Dredging Company state that dredging operations were com--1 menced on August 15 last. On March 17 hist tho company's pumping-plant pon- : toons sank at their moorings and drifted down the Tiver, but fortunately they ' stranded on the rocks below the bridge. 1 It was expected, but for this accident, 1 that dredging operations would have been ■ started within ten days of the occurrence. ! The directors met, and decided to pur- : chase the Waikeri Company's dredge. They made reference to the action brought • against them by the Molyneux Hydraulic • Company, particulars of which liavo already been published by us. They anticipate that tho dividend-paying stage of - the eompany will bo reached before tho • annual meeting of 1911. • THE SHARE MARKET. , DUNEDIN EXCHANGE. ! The market continues quiet.
