Commenting upon Iho Licensing Bill, the ' Vanguard,' the organ of the Nolicense party, says : "We aro jubilant. Wc think it an infinitely better Bill than in our most sanguine moments w© ever hoped for. To-day, in geiroino surprise, wc are asking ourselves however wc got it, as the liquor men are asking tltemeelves, in geimino chagrin, however they let us get itBe it realised that the measure was given us by a House largely hostile, and still more largely indifferent, in the teeth ol all the influence th-e Liquor party could bring to bear, and given us by a Ministrj several members of which nro openly the champions of the other side. We should, then, bo grateful for the progress made, and whatever tlio color our politics maj be, just enough to recognise the way ir which both Sir Joseph Ward and Dr Find lay have stood by their pledges, and U tho verv limit of their power striven, i.< pocure.ihe measme,"
