ANNIVERSARY SERVICES
Very interesting .and successful Sunday school anniversary services were held on the 27th at the Hanover Street Baptist Church, a special feature of the services being in the fact that they were the last of the kind in the present church buildi ing. This was referred to by the preachj ers for the day, and also by Mr A. S. I Adams, who, as an honorary superintendent of the school, presided at the afternoon gathering. He acknowledged that the influence and Leaching which had so largely contributed to what was best in his life had been received during his Sunday school days in that church. The preacher at the morning service was Her. AV. Saunders, who gave an interesting address to the scholars from the words ” Steadfast, unmovable, abounding,” and preached afterwards from 2 Corinthians iii., 11, showing that change and the passing away of the old can lead to more glorious achievement. Hr Chas. North addressed the scholars and friends in the afternoon, and showed from instances of Bengali life how dark it is where Jesus Christ is not. Bov. W. Hay preached to a very large congregation in the evening from the words in Psalm xlv. : " Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, which thou mayest make princes in all the earth,” and pictured the faces of the boys and girls of to-day through the mist of future years, revealing in them the princely life and character that is only to be realised in and through Jesus Christ. The singing by the scholars, under the direction of Mr B. Shrimpton, was excellent, and evidently enjoyed by the congregation, who remained after the' Benediction to listen to more. Miss Binnio ably officiated at the organ. Two former scholars (Ur Chas. North and Mr A. S. Adams), two former superintendents (Mr J. H. Maclaren and .Mr A. B. Adams), the present superintendent (Mr K. H. Drew), and the pastor (Bov. AV. Hay) were all on the platform at the afternoon service, and took part, and it was stated that the Hon. Thos. MMvomeie, M.P., another former scholar, had expressed a wish to be present to worship once more in the old church building.
