[Pi:r. Uxitkh Pkkss Association.] OHRTSTGTfURCII, November 25. h\ tlic Supreme Court this morning Eli'«befli Gunn, waitress, claimed £250 from Charles Wesley Hayes, commercial traveller, for breach of promise. The evidence stowed that defendant had broken off the, engagement three weeks before the date tixrd for ihc marriage. An interesting point, was that < lie-, defendant, in breaking the engagement, had declared that he was being threatened with a breach of premise action by another giv!. He incidentally quoted fic.Liiious interviews with Mr Alpers, who appeared for the plaintilt ill tho present ease. Mr Al|>crs created sonic amusement by repudiating the bad law attributed to him by the defendant. There was virtually no defence onj the facts, and His Honor fixed damages at £4O aud costs.
