Tho representatives of trade* in Eastern Canada have applied to Sir W’ilfrcd Lanrier for aid on behalf of the Toronto Imperial Export Company's projected steamship service from Montreal, Quebec, St. John, and Halifax to Australia and New Zealand. The notes in circulation total £28,494.000; public deposits, £6,920,000; other deposits, £40.450,000; Government securities, £14,413.000: and other securities, £24.184,000. Short loans are discounted at 4i per cent., and three months’ bills at 5J per cent. Consols are quoted at £32 ICs. —Colonial. Stocks.— The following are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous ;

—Wheat, Flour, and Oats.— \\ heat : Ihe markets are quiet, but the tone is steadier, despite continued heavy shipments. Cargoes are well held, and' 38s 6d is asked ; 58s 5d was bid for an Adelaide-December shipment; 38s 3d is asked for January and February shipment ; 58s for February ancl March ; and 6d for steamer parcels, December and January. At the annual meeting of the Gisborne Sheen Farmers' Frozen Meat Company, Mr De Lautour (chairman) stated that the combination among till the freezing companies should effect beneficial results in regard to the fair regulation of freights, insurance, and to some extent opening up new markets and the regulation of those now available. Personally ho had no great faith in the possibility of regulating the London market, but agreed that much good could be done by effective combined action at the port of arrival in order to see that the New Zealand farmer obtained fair treatment and that the English customer got what Ire wanted and- paid for New Zealand meat. He favored immediate action by such companies as would work to-gether. THE SOUTHLAND MARKETS. [Special to the Star.] IN\ ERCARGILL. November 27. Oats. The market is still quiet, but most of the offerings from the country were bought up on a basis equivalent to Is 6d o.t.c.s. There is not a great amount left m Southland. To-day's prices were Is s'd o.t.c.s. for B grade, io Is 6d o.t.e.s. for A grade. Chaff.—The demand for this commodity continues slack, and quotations remain at 35s f to 40s o.t.c.s. for clean bright lines. Grass Seed.—There is still a little demand for export, but farmers do not hold much in hand. To-day’s quotations; Is o.t.e.s. for light and weedy lines, to Is 10d for heavy seed. Potatoes.—Market dead.
