HARBOR BOARD REPORTS

Following is tho Harbor Board engineer's report for presentation at to-morrow's meeting of the Board:

Dredging.—Dredge 222 during thk month has been working at the entrance to tho new dock, between tho Bowen and George street piers, Port Chalmers, and in the channel opposite Deborah Bay. During tlie month of September the dredge removed 15,551 cubic yards from pile 15, and 7.264 cubic yards fromj pile 23, Victoria Channel, also 36,652 cubic yards from the steamers' and Victoria wharf swinging basins, making a, total of 59,477 cubic yards, which were deposited at the Vulcan and pumped on to the Pelichet Bay reclamation at a/ combined cost of about 5d per cubic yard. The dredge, when laying nor moorings at- the new dock entrance, struck an anchor with her propeller, stripping the same. This necessitated tlio dredge going into dock to fit on a new propeller, and advantage was taken to have the annual inspection, cleaning, and painting of tho hull made. Dredge 404 is at present under annual overhaul. During part of October she was working with hor grab buckets deepening the entrance to the new dock. During September she removed. 6,500 cubic yards from the end of Jetty street wharf, and deposited the same at the Vulcan. Dredge Vulcan has been docked, and her hull examined, cleaned, and painted after three years' work, and the hull found] to be in veiy good condition. She is now making a start to dredge tho shoal ground off the end of tha Victoria wharf. Dredge Priestman is at present _ dredging at the Portobcllo jetty. This is practically finished, and a start wiH shortly bo mado at the Broad Bay jetty. During September tho dredge removed 120 cubic yards from the north side of the Georgo street pier, Port Chalmers, and 1,450 cubic yards from the entrance to th« new dock.

Heads Quarry Works.—Between Augutt 28 and September 25 324 cubic yards wer» deposited on the Kaik groyne, 78 cubic yards on the Pelichet Bay retaining wall, 468 cubic yards on the North. Spit wall, making a total of 870 cubic yards, which cost 2s lid per cubic yard for getting and depositing and about 6d per cubic yard for towage. Various Works.—All the walls of the new S shed, .with the exception of the gable on the west end, are completed ; the principals are in position, and the wind bracing and purlins are now being fastened. The pile-driving plant has been working at tbe new dock, driving seven piles along th© western side of the entrance. Th« jetty at Company Bay is completed, and too plant has 'been shifted ready to start at Macandrcw Bay jetty. The concrete floor under the open shed, cross wharf, will be completed by the middle of this week. 812 ft of too longitudinal walling on Victoria wharf is completed. The spillway and culvert at Frederick, street for the discharge of water from the Pelichct Bay reclamation is completed. The weather for tlie lart month has been too heavy to allow any work! to be done to the male light. The lupins and marram grass planted in the autumn at the North Spit are growmgweJl. The western boundary of the North Heads endowment has beenf fenced. The retaining wall along tbe frontage of the Pelicbet Bay reclamation has been brought up to practically formation level with stone, ami 18 now being backed with clay. Twentyfive concrete piles have been made. Tne lower portion of Rattray street, opposite the X shed, has been brought up to city level with rotten rock and metal.
