DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD.
Messis T. Chilmer (chairman), J. E. White, A. J. Sullivan, W. I. Bolam, and J. Wilson attended the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board held yesterday afternoon. Mr J. Arkle was granted two months' leave of absence, as ho intended to vif-it the Commonwealth. Messrs Hosking and Cook wrote reporting the completion of the purchase of tho premises in Cumberland street for the site of the new station.—Received. The Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote authorising payment of £725, first quarter's contribution to the Board.--Received. The General Committee reported that the City Council has agreed to effect certain necee&ary repairs to tho Caversham reel shed ; that one of tho reels has been removed from Caversham shtd to South Dunedin, to replace a broken one ; that the imiia.l grant of hire of hall for the annual social has Ixxm made to the South Dunedin Brigade ; that two of the .tenants of the N.Z. Express Company in the central station site, lu'.ve agreed to continue their tenancy under the Hoard at some rental as formerly paid, subject to one month's notice; that a request of remission of charge for attendance of firemen at benefit concert has been declined.
Reports from tho superintendent had been dealt with as foLlows: —Re M'l.eod Bros.' automatic alarm having been disconnected for some time without notice ; M'Leod Bros, requested to notify brigade in the future whenever alarm disconnected. —Re resignation of Auxiliary Fireman It. Olliver, and recommending John Watson for appointment in lieu. Resignation accepted ; appointment approved.—Reporting examination of gas heaters in theatres; received.—Reporting accidents to two of the auxiliary iiiemen at fire on Ist July, and forwarding letter re accident insurance ; the injured men to be granted such sum up to £2 per week as will, with any other wages received from employers outside the Board, make up that amount.—Reporting condition of mains in vicinity of tire in Serpentine avenue on l*t inst. ; matter referred to City Council, and reply received that the dead" ends in the locality will be connected up.—Adootcd.
The bank pass book showed a net credit balance of £440 9s 9d, the special lean account a. debit balance of £5,500.
