MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
MR M'DOXALD AT SOUTH DUXEDIX. Mr T. K. Sidey presided over Mr M'Donald's meeting liist night. The candidate stated at some length his reason for standing—viz. , the large requisition, which, by a curious coincidence had been presented by Mr Sidey. He then proceeded to dea"l with our various municipal business concerns, treating them both from the finanehl snd the social side. Further important concessions, he said, aje to be granted to those U6ing our trams, the profit on which for the past yenr amounted to over £3.000. The Waipori electrical works were also touched upon, ' and the speaker demon-, strated that in a brief time we shoukl have about 4,C00 li.p. available, which, at the cheap rates charged, would assist the development of Dunedin's important manufacturing status, and consequently benefit the workers arid those dependent upon them. The audience had already been prepared to hear the jarrah sleeper question discussed, and Mr M'Donald carried his hearers with him in dealing with this matter. A full meeting of Mr J. J. Marlow's Committee was held last night, when Mr Malcolm Stevenson was elected* chairman and Mr E. Nees secretary. Splendid reports were handed in by over twenty members. The Ladies' Committee also met, and gave in very encouraging reports of the results of their c&ivase.
