PERSONAL.
Mr John M'Farlane, Mayor of Tapanui, died suddenly yesterday. A Gisborne message announces the death of Mr William Sievwright, solicitor. The deceased was a brother of the late Mr Basil Sievwright, of this City. The Rev. E. L. W'oodhouse, who has continuously worked in St. Peter's parish for the last seven years, and has developed the mission at St. Kilda with great success, has been ordered bv his doctor to drop work at once, and he* leaves for England on the 29th May, having, it is understood, been granted six or nine months' leave. The rev. gentleman's many friends are getting up a testimonial expressive of their regard and sympathy. Mr Weedhouse is a B.A. of Cambridge, and son of the late Canon Wocdhouse, of Manchester Owing to the b-eakdown of the Mararoa, Mr William Davidson, member of the Teachers' Superannuation Board, was unable to reach Wellington in time to attend the meeting of that body, held yesterday. Mr Davidson returned from Christchurch by the second express last night.
