THOSE "SLEEPERS."

THE COMMITTEE'S FINDING. The Special Committee of the City Council appointed to inquire into the condition of the sleepers purchased for the George street tram track will report as follows to to-night's meeting of the Council:— ; Your Committee beg to report that from a personal inspection of the sleepers, and' after taking into consideration the reports of the experts called in to report on their condition and value, your Committee consider that the sleepers are not suitable for tramway purposes where permanency is required, and that the price paid was excessive. Further, in your Committee's opinion it would have been better to have purchased entirely new timber.
