MAYORAL AND MUNICIPAL. Mr A. Maiheson, retiring Mavor of Eoslyn, announced last night that‘he did not intend to relinquish his long connection with the Council, as he would be a candidate for his old ward (Kilgour), one of the representatives for which (Cr Calder) was not, so he understood, seeking re-election. Cr Stevenson announced that he did not intend to stand at the approaching election. Cr Campbell addressed a meeting of' North east A all.'v eketor- at M’Fadye.n’s Store, Ualmore, last night. There was -a fair attendance. Mr Pea was in the chair. Ihe candidate spoke for over an hour on matters of municipal interest. A resolution was carried unanimously, on the motion of Mr Frame, seconded by Mr Dunn, that Cr Campbell is the most fit and proper peison to represent the borough as mayor, and that the meeting pledge themselves to do all in their power to secure his return. A meeting of the supporters of Mr J. J. Marlow was held at his committee rooms last evening. Very encouraging reports were handed in. It was decided to hold a full meeting of. supporters on Tuesday night, when arrangements for a systematic canvass would be made. The election of chairman and secretary was left for the full meeting. The Town Hall has been secured for Wednesday night, when the candidate will address the electors. A deputation waited on Mr Hugh Mitchell yesterday and requested him to consent to be nominated as a councillor for Leith Ward. Mr Mitchell, while appreciating the compliment paid him, regretted that business arrangements would not permit of him standing. Cr D. 0. Cameron, jun., has been nominated for re-election as councillor for Musselburgh Ward in the St. Hilda Borough Council. The retiring Mayor of Momington (Mr H. A. Lo Gren) is seeking election to the Council. Crs Birt and Dickson .are retiring, and Cr M'Crorie has not yet decided whether he will stand again. Mr G. F. Bow ley, pastrycook, George street, will be a candidate for Bell Ward at the municipal elections.
