Wheat : The markets are strong and animated, despite the large quantity afloat and ample immediate supplies. There is a- more active demand for, cargoes. Sales are reported at 44s to 44s sd. Holders are very firm. Parcels afloat sold at 44s 3d ; Australian spot, 465. Beerbohm estimates that the shipments dnnnn the next four weeks will average 850.000 quarters weekly, whilst the requirements may easily amount to 1,150,000, owing to the very large demand in England, Italy, and Germany. There is an excited market for flour, and a general advance of Is 6d to 2s. Adelaide April and May shipments sold at Glasgow at 54s (?) landed. —Metals.— Silver, 23 7-16 d per oz. Copper : Spot, £57 7s 6d ; three months, £SB 2s 6d : electrolytic, £SB 7s 6d. Tin : Spot, £155 17s sd; three months, £134 17s sd. Lead : £ls ss. Pig iron, 47s Bd. ; —Kauri Gum.— At the kauri gum sales 211 cases were offered and 53 sold at full late prices. —Sugar and Wool.— Sugar : German, 10s 4d; first marks, 12s 3d. Bradford wool is firm, with prices unci a-iged. —Butter.— Colonial butter is very flat. A few choicest Australian is selling at -98s: ew Zealand, 100s to 101s; secondaries are neglected; Danish, 106s to 108s. THE OAT MARKET. [Special to the Star.] INVERCARGILL, April 17. In connection with the over-supply and low state of the oat market the New Zealand and Shaw-Savill Shipping Companies have conjointly chartered the steamer Den of Ruthven to load grain for England at Timaru, Lyttelton, and the Bluff. There will be a large shipment of Bluff oats by this vessel, and that should tend to reduce stocks and improve the market. The present quotations range between Ig I'd and Is 2d, o.t.c.s. (sacks according to the distance from the port.
