PERSONAL.
The Rev. Father Broomfield, parish priest at Coromandel, died in the hospital there from pneumonia, aged sbrtj^*ight.— Auckland wire. On Wednesday afternoon Mr P. H. Mathieson, who is leaving Dalgetyand Co.'* to take up a position in Timani, was presented by the millers of Dunedin with a silver-mounted walking stick, suitably engraved, as- a memento of their business connection with him and a mark of their esteem and good wishes for his future prosperity. The following delegates have been Belected to represent the Otago district at the annual conference of the New Zealand Railway Officers 1 Institute, which opens at Wellington on the 26th inst.:—Messrs A. Beekman (traffic superintendent's staff), IT. P. Stanaway (Dunedin station staff), and W. A. Marshall (station-master, Duntj'oon). Mr A. Graham, station-master at P»rt Chalmers, will also attend the oonffrence, es officio, as president of the Executive.
