A number of people seem to be under the impression that the Saturday half-holiday enjoyed by those working under the Factories Act will be affected by the forthcoming poll. This is quite wrong. The vote has only to do with shops, and decides whether the public at large' are to continue to enjov the privilege of shopping on Saturday 'afternoon.; and evening, or whether to afford more pleasure-giving facilities to a very few the business of the masses is to be thrown out of joint. Saturday night is one of the bright SDots in the life of the people, and it is hardly wise to transform it into a dismal night of gloominess and empty streets.—[l24s]
