ATHLETICS.

NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Sports Committee of the Otago Centre nut last, night in connection with the New Zealand amateur athletic championship sports meeting, which is to be held on Saturday week, the 20th insU, at the Caledonian Ground. The secretary read correspondence from the Auckland Centro, who intimated that they would be represented by a team of five men, amongst whom would be included. Hill, the winner of the Auckland Marathon Championship Race. The Wellington Centre ah*) wrote that their team would contain at least twelve competitors, amongst whom would be the Australasian champions MacKay and Sharp. The Canterbury Centre stated that tb,eir team would be picked on Saturday next, and that a large number of competitors would be sent, and that they had every hope that Guy Haskins, the American intercollegiate champion, would n.ake the trip. Haskins has won the 88G Yards in lmin 57sec and the One-mile in 4min 20sec, and has defeated Shepherd, the world's Olympic champion, on one or t - vo occasions, as well as winning the United States intercollegiate Five-mile crosscountry championship. The secretary reported that all arrangements were well in hand, and that everything promises well for a successful meeting. The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Wellington, wrote stating that they had appointed Mr J. B. Holt sole judge of walking for the meeting. Details in connection with the conference of centres were gone into, and several important alterations to the rules were forwarded to the secretary to the conference to be brought up at the meeting of delegates. At the request of the Auckland, Wellington, and Canterbury Centres it was decided to accept nominations for the various events up to Saturday next. The nomination fee fised by the rules of the N.Z. A.A.A. is ss, and under the rules every competitor must pay his own nomination fees. Dr Newman, president of the N.Z. A.A.A., wrote stating that he would be in Dunedin on the 20th March for the championships.
