RETIRED OFFICERS.

Among the Civil servants who will be retired from the Agricultural Department on the 31st inst. are : John Drumraond, inspector of stock; Alexander Ironside, inspector of stock, Otago. In the Valuation Department A. Pyper, district valuer, Invercargill, has reached the limit (sixtyfive years). Mr Alex. Armstrong, who is about to retire on superannuation from the position of chief gaoler at Wellington, was born at sea in 1843. He was an officer of the East India Company's service for twenty-one years. He was chief warder at Dunedin, and in charge of the gaol at Invercargill from 1903 uutil he was promoted to his .present position in Wellington.
