BOWLING.

THE DUNEDIN CENTRE. Last night's meoting of the Committee of the Dnnedin Bowling Centre was presided over by Mr J. J. Marlow. The Secretary of the South Otago Centre wrote intimating that his Committee had fixed the 23rd inst. for the match Dunedin Centre against the South Otago Centre. He asked whether six or eight rinks were to take part in the match.—The letter was received; eight rinks to take part in the match. Mr T. A., Maekie wrote for the second time as to his protest against not being allowed to compete for the championship of the Taieri Green.—After discussion it was agreed that the clwirman and Mr Stephens see the eeeretary of the Taieri Club, and get the whole of the particulars without going into correspondence over the matter.

The hon. secretary of the Christchurch Centre wrote that the 19th inst. liad been fixed for the match between the Christchurch and Dunedin Centies, that eight rinks would leave on the 18th inst.. and would play at Timaru on their way down. —The date fixed for the match was approved, and it was decided to hold a meeting to-morrow to select a team to represent Dunedin. A committee were also appointed to visit certain greens and decide as to which it would be preferable to play the match on.

Mr Keast suggested tliat a banner should be obtained for presentation to the winning Centre, and that the eo6t should be borne between the Chrisichurch and the Dunedin Centres, but it was resolved that the Council he written to asking them to provide a challenge banner for competition among the whole of the Centres.

It was decided that the president and the secretary of the Taieri Club, who wore to be invited to attend the smoke concert to take place after the match between the Christcluirch and 'the Dunedin Centres, should have handed to them the championship banner won by the Taierjf team, the presentation to take place at the smoke concert..

The following letter was received from the acting president of the Duuedin Club : " Re your request dated 15th December last for payment of club's levy to Council and Centre. This matter has had the consideration of directors, and at a meeting held hist evening it was unanimously resolved—' That a letter of protest be' sent to the Dnnedin Centre thai in the opinion of the directors of this club the Dunedin Centre have no legal power to make two levies on clubs, and this club decline to pay the same accordingly.' I>ast year's levy was advanced by the secretary before obtaining the sanction of directors.''—The Chairman said the position was that the Duncdin Centre did not make two levies on clubs. The constitution of the N.Z.B.A. arranged for the Centres in the various districts collecting the Council's levy, and the Centres received no pecuni;iry benefit whatever from that. The Centre only collected the levy for anotlier body, and had one levy for tlie Centre. It astonished liinn that a club composed of business men sirould take up this position. The Dunedin Club had joined the Centre, and had taken their full year's benefits, and now objected to the levy.—lt was ultimately decided to send the following letter to the Dunedin Club: "The Committee of the Centre have given fall consideration to your letter. They regret that tbe parent club should have taken up such a position, especially after members have received the full benefits of the season. The Centre are quite satisfied as to tiie legality of the levy, and would point out that the rules of the Centre were adopted at a meeting of delegates at which your club were represented, and that, moreover, these rales have been ratified by the Council. It is impossible that the Centre should recede from the attitude taken up in making the demand, and I am directed to request your directors to reconsider their decision. The Centre will expect a reply within fourteen days."
