DUNEDIN LICENSING ELECTION.

APPEAL OF THE MODERATE CANDIDATES. [Advt.| 1. We frankly assure the electors we have no personal advantage to gain other than to honestly promote, should we be elected, what we conceive is, under existing circumstances, the best interests of the entire community. 2. Whatever expenses we incur we shall pay out of our own pockets, as we did last election. Nor were they repaid to us, nor will the present expenses we incur. 3. Our nomination papers were handed in by ourselves, and our nominators do not belong to the trade. 4. We repeat we will, if elected, close, after a strict and impartial inquiry, every hotel that has not given, and does not give, proper accommodation to boarders and visitors. 5. Hence we will close any number from three to ten. 6. This accords with the Licensing Act, and with the spirit, we believe, of the late Local Option vote, which did not irrevocahly insist that ten hoteh? must bo closed. 7. We repeat we have given no pledge whatever to the Prohibition or to the Liquor party as to the number of hotels we shall close. Nor have either party interviewed us on tlie question, nor rjave we interviewed them. 8. But there is a third party never considered by extremists, and that is the great Moderate party, which we desire to serve, and which, if they exert their power can hold the scales of justice evenly between the Prohibition and the Liquor parties. To this party we confidently appeal for support. 9. As we understand that a number of electors did not see our previous manifesto, kindly oblige by publishing it in this issue. We are, yours faithfully, JAMES ARKLE. JOSEPH BRATTHWAITE WILLIAM BURNETT. HENRY CRUST. „ 4 AM ft*MTT-
