FIRE BRIGADES.

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 8. The thirteenth annual Conference of the United Fire Brigades Association opened to-day, 101 delegates attending. The President (Mr Wildish), in hie opening address, regretted that so few brigades had taken advantage of the legislation for the constitution of fire boards. Thie, he belived, was chiefly due to the brigades 7iot having fully undcrelod the legislation. They had had com plaints that the insurance companies were not contributing towards fire brigade maintanance, and here they had a pcheme which made it, compulsory on them to contribute. He trusted they would return to their brigade charger, with information that would enable them to act.
