METHODIST CONFERENCE.

[Pee United Pbess Association.]

WELLINGTON, March 8. The Methodist Conference to-day passed a series of resolutions in regard to the No-license question. The Conference rejoiced in the continued growth of the movement, as indicated by the substantial increase in the vote at the recent poll; congratulated the electorates in which Nolicense had previously obtained upon the fact that not one of them voted for Restoration; recorded their opinion that 60 per cent, of tho valid votes cast is too high a proportion, and expressed a hope that in the nea.r future the law may be so amended that No-license may bo secured at least by a majority of less proportion than is at present required. It was reported that the foreign missions income for the past year was £2,912, being an increaso of £742 on the amount for the previous year. The Revs. J. N. Burton and N. O/Poole, both of Fiji, are to be foreign mission deputations in the Dominion this year, and it was decided that the Rev. J. G. Wheen, one of the general secretaries, be tho deputation for 1910.

The Rev. Mr Blamires moved—" That this Conference express their sympathy with the employable unemployed in tluj Dominion, and urge the Government to take stops to discourage undue importations of such classes of immigrants as will be calculated to throw out of employment those who are already at work." Objection was taken by somo speakers to keeping New Zealand closed to outsiders. Eventually the motion was amended expressing sympathy wilt tho unemployed, and asking the Government to find "employment for all who require it. The amendment was carried. [SrECIAL TO THE StAK.]
