Shooting commenced with the Wellington Match at 500 yds range, the intention being to complete that and the 600 yds to-day, and part of the Otago Match at 800yde. The weather is fine, but from the start a brisk leit wind was blowing fitfully, and a good many marksmen failed to get upon the bull. Milroy, for instance, only secured 56, while Boys, who has already won two matches, only scored.4l. On the Sommerville range there were three possibles scored : Mackay (Dunedin), Jackson (Linwocd), and Potter (Auckland). Willoughby (Gladstone) and Glendinning (Napier) made "all buts." Forty-eights and 4Ts were numerous, and on the whole the shooting was excellent. The match is still in progress. The shooting at the 500 yards range of the Wellington match closed with two additional "possibles," Halliday (Karori) and Fisher (Wellington). The 600 yards stage was then started, but the wind was unfavorable to good shooting, and the scores bid fair to be low. Howe (Wellington) was highest scorer at the range up to mid-day with 46, while Wing was then leading for the match with an aggregate of 92, Balfour (Taradale) beingliext, a point below. Hogg, a Dunedin tyro, totalled 89 at the two ranges. The 800 yards of the Otago match (ten shots) commenced shortly before noon. Tho wind was slightly stronger than for the earlier shooting. Smith (Hastings), Shanks (Gore), Craw (Chorlion), and Preston (Auckland) found the bull, while " all buts " were secured by Soper (Blenheim), Loveday (Ohura), and Franklin (Weber). There were several 48's, while 47's were numerous. The top scorer in the Wellington Match up to noon was Grindell (Napier), with 95. After lunch Colonel Collins announced that complaints had been made of men assisting each other on tho ranges. He stated that tho officers had been asked to report the offenders, and if complaints are sustained the offenders will be disqualified for the whole of the meeting. The squads are now changing over to the 800 and 600 yards ranges.
