OTAGO ROWING CLUB.

LADIES’ DAY. The annual ladies’ day in connection with the Otago Rowing Club took place this afternoon. The day was beautifully fine, but a stiff breeze that sprang up in the afternoon made it rather unpleasant for rowing. There was a largo attendance of visitors, among whom were many lady friends of the club. The veteran B, Provo bad been for some time busy training a crew of ladies, who made their- first appearance in public this afternoon and their -.owing did credit to the skill of their trainer, and was a feature of the afternoon. There is no doubt that the skill displayed by Mr Provo’s four will encourage other ladies to take up the pastime. The proceedings opened ot half-past two with a procession of boats, which left the ahed in the following order: —Singlo-sculler (with marshal), canoes (witli crows° for first heat of canoo race), racing double-scullers practice double-scullers (with crew for first heat of double-sculliug race), racin'* four outrigger fours (with crews and coxswains for Thomson Fours), ladies’ crew, pleasure baits. The crews then lined into a straight line between the shed and the dynamite magazine, and proceeded in single file, describin'* n large circle in front of the sired. The boats as they circled round presented a very pretty spectacle, the ladies’ four, in their biuc-and-white blouses and Wne caps, looking remarkably wdL At the condition of the sports various races were got off, including the Thomson Fours, and Uie North End Club sent a four for too visitors raoo. A large marquee bud been erected, and m it the lady friends of the club entertained the visitors at afternoon tea. The function was excellently managed, and was in evenway a thorough success.
