OTAGO'S REP. TEAM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A complaint as to the training of the Otago rep. team. I believe that the team have assembled at the Caledonian Ground three or four nights this week. The programme has been scrum formation, etc., a run round, and the customary rub down. That is ail right as far as the forwards are concerned, but what about the backs. I learn that all the practice they have had has been a run or two each evening. No field practice*at passing whatever; no provision for it even. Now, what on earth are the Rugby officials up to when things are done in this half-hearted manner? Do they think it is fair to pit these men, not need to each other's play, against men who know each other's every move, as it were, without the combination that is necessary to success? Sir, believe me that if our backs are successful to-morrow it will be through individual judgment to make the most of the situation rather than help they have received at their training quarters this week. —I am. etc.. Combination. May 29.
