Betting: 3 to 1 against Realm, 5 to 1 Rea Sea, 6 to 1 Shamrock, 10 to 1 Florin and Rattlesnake. When the field settled down Conqueror was leading from Realm, but round to the stand the latter, who waft jumping patchily, was leading. Sarasati took command when going out of the straight, and obtained a good lead from Realm and Monason. Passing the stand the second time Sarasati wa*. just in front of Mercury, with Realm and Monason next. The last-named fell at the seven-furlong post, frmiing down the railway side for home Mercury Was just clear of Sarasati and Realm, with Florin next. Realm and Florin entered the straight, and crossed the last hurdle together, but the favorite had Florin's measure in a few strides, and, going easily, won by threeparts of a length. The members of the Dunedin Gun Club held a competition on Saturday for a prize presented by Mr W. Wain. The conditions were : Eighteen birds, unknown angles. The winner turned up in Mr T. Gillespie, who Bhowed excellent form despite the climatic disturbances, getting the maximum number of eighteen birds. Mr D. Spalding was second with seventeen birds. After the match a sweepstake of nine birds was held. The wind having subsided the shooting was excellent, five members getting all their birds—namely, Yinnicombe, Scott. Whalen. Lawpon and Gillespie. In the shoot off Whakn won. The New Zealand horses Vardo and Sandy ran unsuccessfully at the Rosehill (Sydney) meeting on Saturday.
