United Press Association] FEILDING, Angus* 6. ' A brutal assault is reported from Awahuri yesterday, where a man named John Whelan assaulted an old man, Patrick Ashe, in a wharc with a piece of firewood, severely injuring him about the head. The victim, who is in a dangerous condition, was taken to the Palmerston Hospital. Whelan was brought befqre the Feilding Court today and Temanded. GORE, August 6. A case of supposed swine fever has occurred on a farm near Gore of twenty-six store pigs. They were purchased'at auction a week ago. Two developed symptoms coinciding with swine fever, aaid died on Saturday. Mr Kerrigan, Government V. terinarion, arrived to-day to investigate tho matter. He says that the colony was recently declared free of fever, and he will be much surprised if it lias again broken out.
