SALE OF WORK.

Wiih the object of raising funds for the renovation of the South Dunedin Presbyterian Church, the Ladies’ Guild of that institution have promoted a sale of work, which was opened in tho church hall last night by Mr T. K. Sidey, M.H.R. The sale is t arranged after the manner of its land, with stalls and stallholders, and side shows, etc. As such it is good, and it is in the hands of enthusiasts. The Rev. R. Mackie, who presided, briefly explained the object of the function, and called upon Mr Sidey to open the sale. Mr Sidey, in an appropriate speech, ’ expressed his sympathy with the movement, and his hope that the results of the sale would exceed the most sanguine expectations of its protaoters. He made passing reference to certain statements that had been made, to the effect that Presbyterians did not work hand-in-hand with certain other reform bodies, and said that subsequently elicited facts had disproved those suggestions. The aim of such bodies as the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society was cure; Presbyterianism made for prevention, and prevention was always better than cure. The Caversham Brass Band assist at the sale, and last nieht played selections outside the hall. The sale will be continued this evening and on Friday afternoon and evening. Following is a list of stall-holders, etc. : Fancv Goods.—Mesdames Ross and Camnbell. Plain Goods.—Mesdames Ncwlands, Ross, Clarkson, Bateman, and Mackie. Jumble Stall.—Mesdames M'Donald and • M‘Lolland. Lollie Stall. —Mrs P. Stewart and Misses Menzies and Hill.
