HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR.

A MASONIC ADDRESS. At the Grand Hotel this morning His ExceHency the Governor met Messrs T. S. Graham, James Gore, and D. A. M'Nicoll, who presented him with a handsome scroUmonnted address of welcome from the English, Irish, and Scotch Masonic Constitutions in Otago. Without preamble Mr Graham read the address as follows : Right Honorable William Lee, Baron Plnnket;, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Knight ■ Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, May it please your Excellency,— As representatives in Otago Distrid of the three old Masonic Constitutions ol England, Ireland, and Scotland, we desire to approach you on this your visit to Dunedin with feelings of loyalty to tire Crown and an assurance of* our respect for you personaUy. We are satisfied that during your term of office as Governor of New Zealand everything will be done in your power towards the advancement and prosperity of the colony, and we earnestly pray Lha.l during your residence amongst us every blessing may be accorded to yourself, your gracious lady, and the members of your domestic circle. Mr Graham said that in asking His Excellency to accept this address he desired to accompany it with the Masons’ hearty greetings and congratulations to His Excellency on his having boon, appointed to tbe office of Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. f His Excellency, in reply, said;. Gentlemen, —I much appreciate the kind thought which has prompted you to present me with an address of welcome from the Masonic brethren working under the Constitutions of England, Ireland, and Scotland in the Otago District. Whilst I. am aware I 1 should need no assurances from Freemasons of their devotion to His Majesty the King and Patron of the Craft, your loyal and cordial address is none the less welcome. I thank you sincerely for your kindly references to myself personally and the members of my family, and I trust you will convey my hearty good wishes to the brethren under, your charge.
