SIR J. G. WARD'S RETURN.

[Special to the Star.] 1 WELLINGTON, July 25. At eight o’clock last evening a thoroughly representative meeting of business men, politicians, professional men, and workers met in the Mayor’s room and appointed the following . Committee to make arrangements for the reception next week (probably Thursday) of Sir Joseph Ward : —His Worship the Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop), Hon. T. K. Macdonald, Dr Findlay. Messrs C. P. Skerrett, 0. M. Luke, Dr Cahill, C. B. Morison, Fisher, M.H.R., Naughlon (Trades and Labor Council), Rev. H. Van Staveren, T. W. Mac Donald (Mayor of the Hurt), and J. Devine. Mr Page, formerly Town Clerk, was appointed secretary. In the course .of conversation it was understood that the movement is without political significance, and it was suggested that the reception be in the Town Hall, so as to give the citizens full scope—a thing not to be attained by a banquet. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated a very cordial meeting.
