The ‘Young Man’s Magazine’ for July, in. addition to the usual well-oeleeted information dealing with matters of special interest to the majority of readers of the magazine, has several excellent photographs, and the following among other articles ‘ Student Life’ (by Professor Brown, of Christchurch), ‘James Russell Lowell’ (by Sir Robert Stout), and ‘Striving for Success' (by William Matthews, LL.D.). ‘‘Progress’ for July is a Wellington publication devoted to engineering, industry, architecture, building, science, and invention. It has specially contributed articles on the Victorian College Laboratories, the Gear Meat Works, power transmission, some badly-needed inventions, the motor etc. The illustrations are numerous and timely. Baldwin and Hayward deservC every reasonable encouragement in their enterprise an publishers of a magazine dealing with the most modern applications of mechanical akiil and scientific discovery.
