THE EXHIBITION.

THE QUESTION OF SOLE RIGHTS

[SFECIAIi TO THE &TAB.] CHEISTCHURCH, July 25. The question of the sale of rights for the Exhibition having been raised, Mr Allan, Executive Commissioner, states that there are only two instances in which tha sole right to sell is allowed for anything. In one case a large firm offered a lump sum for the right to vend certain articles, and in the other the right of ordinary exhibitors (no other applications being received) was given to them A good deal of consideration was given to the question by the Special Committee, and, except in the two instances referred to, no monopoly had been established. The Committee regretted that a monopoly hud been given in these two instances. The people - who have a monopoly pay a commission of from 10 to 29 per cent., so that local tradesmen are not at a disadvantage with outside exhibitors, who are making use of the Exhibition as a warehouse, and, in addition to commission, are paying the full rates for all space occupied and for snecial liuhting required.
