Seen to-day with reference to the “ butter famine, Mr W. J. Bolt, manager of the Taieri and Peninsula Company, said that the statement that there were about 51,500 boxes in the stores of the colony was correct. Mr_ Bolt states that the winter consumption in the colony cannot be overtaken by less than 40,000 boxes, so the positon may bo estimated from that. His company could have done a very large trade this winter, but, as it is, they cannot even look at numbers of orders. In 1902 and 1903 the colony had as much as 100,000 boxes in store. ‘ It will be remembered that tho mass meeting which was called to consider the position caused through the appropriation of tho Harbor Board endowments had to be postponed on account of the death of Mr Sodden. It has now been decided by tho mayor that tho meeting shall bo called immediately prior to tho opening of the parliamentary session.
