PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular meeting of the Council was attended ye-terday evening by the Mayor (Mr L Stevenson), Cra Barker, M'Pherson, Mawson, Shanks, Brandham, Cable, McDonald, Morgan, Edgar, and ’Bait. Mr E. O. Allen, M.H.8., wrote accepting the position as delegate for the Council r,i = the forthcoming Municipal Conference.— Received. The Secretary of the Otago Dock Trust wrote forwarding to the Council the letter in reference to strong-room accommodation for reconsiderat on, and stating that the present rent paid by the Trust was a fair one. —Received. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts since last meeting amounted to £212 18s 3d, end recommended accounts amounting to £133 19s 4d for payment, also an account for water extension (£2 14s). —-Adopte A. The Water Committee reported on Mr Mungo Kirkwood, seu.’s, letter complaining that he had no road to his four sections (319, 330, 321, and 322) at Bellevue place, and also that one of the sections was completely blocked by a recently-erected fence. The Committee recommended that. Mr Kirkwood be written to staling that the Council could not see their way to spend any money on the road in question at present, and that the revenue derived from the land did not warrant the Conned 1 spending any money in the direction indicated- ln reference to one of his sections being blocked, the inspector would see that an entrance was made to the section. The Committee further reported that since the last meeting of the Council a footpath had been made in Burns street, about three chains of which had been asphalted. A farther quantity of metal had been spread in George street, and the metal in Grey street had been coated with blinding. A fence had been erected on the top part of Constitution street, and some repairs done in Daly street.—Adopted. The' Water • Committee, in reporting on the Dock Trust’s letter re using the fire service for boiler-filling purposes, regretted that water had been taken on former occasions without permission, but they felt assured from what had transpired recently that in all future cases when the larger supply was required the Dock Trust officers would adhere to the Council's procedure.— Adopted. The By-law Committee reported that the borough inspector had been successful in obla'ning convictions against several offenders for Preaches of the by-laws in utilising this footpath for other than pedestrian purposes.—Adopted. On the motion of Cr Edgar, the Water Committee were given power to act in purchasing a hose for the use of supplying water to shipping. It was resolved to call for tenders, returnable in a fortnight, for the erection of a strong room in the town clerk’s office. The Works Committee were empowered to shift No. 2 fire brigade station to a more convenient site. The Council then went into committee.
