Press Association—By Telegraph—Ccpyrighi. LONDON. March 17. Upwards of 1,000 Munsbis were killed during the operations in the drive on the MunstuV reserve (Northern Nigeria). [On January 11 last Reuter's Agency reported that on his arrival at Lokoja Sir Frederick Lugard received a telegraphic report from the Binne that the Mnnshis, a truculent cannibal tribe on thut river, bad risen, and were intending to attack the post of Amagedi. No further details were given. Since then a large force of the" 2nd Battalion Northern Nigerian Regiment under Colonel Hasler had been despatched to the disturbed region. During the past summer there "was a good deal of trouble in opening up the Bautshi plateau owing to the sition of the many cannibal tribes inhabiting the region. Last year it -was explored for the first time, order was restored, and the people accepted British rule. A Resident with a garrison was established in the north-west of the territory at Bulcuiu, whence . the. whole of the plateau can be controlled. The district of Basa, the scone of the murder of Captain O'Riordan, still continues unruly, and recently the Resident, with a liandfuJ of police, was surrounded by a mob of 3,000 savages.
