E. Reynolds and Co. v. Anketell Bros. (Masterton), for £5 ISs (goods), with 25s costs; Lane and Co. (Mr Finch) v. Walter Rice (Wellington), for £6 13s 4d (on loan and interest), with 25s 6d costo; Mitchell and Pickard (Mr Stamper) v. C. E. Girvan, for £1 4s (goods), with 5s cost?; Archibald M'Kinlay (Mr Wilkinson) v. James Kalor (Abbotsford), for £3 7s 6d (goods), with 10s costs. ' In the judgment summons case Alexander Kilpalrick v. Stewart M'Donald, defendant was examined, and on his evidence that ho was unable to pay, the casa was dismissed.— In the case of John Matthews v. John Dowdall defendant failed to appear, and an order was made that unless he pay forthwith £7 10s due, with 10s costs, he be imprisoned for ten days.—Defendant in the case of P. J. Helean and Co. v. James Dean also failed to appear, and was ordered to pay forthwith the £2 13s due, with 7s costs, or go to gaol for seven days. Tho Court was occupied as we went to press hearing the case, of Mary Napier v. John Bunting and Margaret Bunting, his wife. Plaintiff claimed to recover from tiio defendants) a sewiDg machine, which she alleged was her property, and unlawfully detained by the defendants, or, in the alternative, £l4 10s, the value of the machine. Mr Prayer appeared for pkiinliU and Mr Hanlon for defendants. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before C. C. Graham, Esq., S-M.) Drunkenness.—A fh\-.fc offender was fined ss, in default twenty-four horn's' imprisonment. Isabella Johnston (an old age pensioner) was charged with this offence.—On the application of Mr Keddell an order was made for the forfeiture of her next monthly instalment. Caroline Brown, an old offender, asked for a remand for a week to procure evidence that she was a " teetotaller."—Evidence was given that she was drunk and incapable yesterday, and shouting in the streets.—She was sentenced lo one month's imprisonment. Maintenance.—John Johnston, for whom Mr Hanlon appeared, was charged with having on May 28, at Wanganui, failed to comply with an order of the court to pay 10's per week for the maintenance of his child.—On the application of counsel, defendant was remanded for one week, bail being allowed as before. Obsceno Language.—Andrew pleaded guilty to a charge of using obscene language in Filleul street. Mr Hanlon appeared for him.—Sergeant King said that the language was used to a female in the presence of males. He used the language for several minutes.—Mr Hanlon-said that the defendant had no clear recollection of what took place. He said that there was a row between him and another man. This woman interfered, and "used vile language to him, and he retorted, though he did not know what exactly he did say. The woman aggravated him to retort bv her own language.—The Magistrate said that had the language been addressed to a respectable woman without any provocation he would have thought, it a" case for iniprisonmenfc.
