Thes New Zealand? Polo Association's annual tournament, which opened hi Christchurch on Saturday, is now in progress. The annual sports wiH be held on the Riccarton racecourse on Saturday next. The ten cars taking part in the motor reliability test under the auspices of [he Auckland Automobile Association returned to Auckland last night after an interesting run to Taupo and back —a total distance of 42! l miles. The trial, which is the first of the kind conducted by the Association, proved very successful, and such trials will probably be conducted annually in future. The roads during a portion of tho journey ■were very rough, but the cars stood the journey well, and ho serious mishaps occurred. The results of the competition in respect to the points gamed by each car are not yet known. A sprinting match for a purse of £25 attracted a large attendance at Invercargill last evening. The contestants were. W. Beard, of Invercargill, and J. Currie, of Heriot, and the distance 135 yds. Both men got away well, and Currie, gradually drawing ahead, won by about 2yds. The annual meeting* of the Green Island football team (Rugby) M-as to Lave been held last night, but owing to only a few members turning up it was- adjourned.
