MINING MEETINGS

Captain Sundstrum presided over the annual general meeting of shareholders in the Alexandra Lead Company, which was held on Friday afternoon. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman referred to the trouble the dredge had encountered with silt. But now the river was rising, and likely to keep high, that trouble was largely over. Ho had been up to the dredge, and was satisfied that the returns would be 40oz to 50oz a week for some time to come. The dredge-master (Mr C. Simonson) had proved an experienced and capable servant to the company. The report was adopted, and the retiring directors (Captain C. F. Sundstrum and Mr B. Throp) and the retiring auditors (Messrs Barr, Leary, and Co.) were re-elected. The annual general meeting of shareholders in the Unity Gold Dredging Company was held on Friday evening. About eiglit shareholders were present, and Mr A, Sligo occupied tho chair. The Chairman expressed regret at the of the chairman of directors (Mr H. F. Nees), who was in Australia. They had reached a point where it was necessary to consider the advisability of winding up the company. Last year had been a fairly good one, and for sLc weeks alter the annual meeting in 1904 the dredge did well. But since the middle of December they bad been going all to the bad. . They had now received word of a breakdown, and a wire had been sent to the dredge-master not to incur any expense until further advised. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. The position of the company was set forth thus ; Money in the bank, £l6B 13s lid; accounts, etc., £378 15s 7d; leaving a deficit of £217 13s Bd. It was resolved that an extraordinary meeting of shareholders be called for Friday, November 10, for the purpose of discussing the position of the company and considering liquidation. Mr H. F. Nees was reelected director,' and Mr James Brown was reappointed auditor.
