THE LAND COMMISSION.
THE NORTHERN SECTION. [Special to the Stab.] TE KUITI, Jane 6. The Land Commission meeting at Te Kuiti yesterday afternoon was very largely attended. The evidence was mainly a repetition of that given at the other centres in Kawhia and the King Country. Freehold, roads, and native lands were the questions chiefly emphasised. The first testimony in favor of lease in perpetuity was given by a settler from within the bordens of' the Taranalu land district, who said that fifteen neighboring settlers were well satisfied with leares in perpetuity; but still they were of opinion that as the surrounding blocks had been offered under the optional tenure they should have the same privilege. ONGARUE, March 6. • The/ Commission met here to-day. Settlers attended from the Ohura and Aria blocks. Their view was a repetition of that previously given in the district. With the exception of- one ksa-se-in-perpetuity settler, they favored tho freehold.
