HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT
The report of the. Hospital Commission came before the Auckland Hospital Board for consideration yesterday. A long discussion took place "on tRe motion to adjourn consideration. On this being lost Mr Bollard, M.H.R., asked leavo to retire, as he strongly protested against going on, the report having iust- been received by the Board. Another merpber also retired. A motion referring the : recommendations of the Commission as regard* sanitary arrangements, lift, and bathroom accommodation to a committee was carried. Some discussion took place on the Commission's report on the fees questions, several members contending that certain statements in the report were not accurate. It was stated that more fees per head per day were paid than in any other large hospital in the colony, still the poor were not harassed. "Our Own" at Wellington wires:—lt ?s apparent thtvt the recent hospital scandids have drawn attention pointedly to the fact that the Government pay largely to the upkeep of the hospitals, and have no power whatever to check the expenditure. • The feeling is becoming strong that the hospital people ought either to let the Government have an adequate share in the management or depend on their own efforts for everything. The present system has gone on long enough. Nothing more is required to prove its absolute undesirability, and there will he a Bill next session to put the matter on a decent footing of principle.
