RAVENSBOURNE BOATING CLUB
The second series of races in connectioi with the above club was held on Saturday, and attracted a large number of yachting enthusiasts. The meeting of Waimana, Irex, Eileen, Ventura, ana Lennox Lass, all fast boats in their various classes, was looked forward to, but the interest was somewhat lost, as a leading S.E. wind was the order of the day, and at times was very light, which did not in any way enable the yachts to show their capabilities in the way of windward work. The Irex, a boat of the unballasted class, that carries a huge sail, and was prettily handled, gained a fairly easy win by some 6min, with Waimana second and Ventura tlrird. The once formidable Eileen was a long way astern, and for some unaccountable reason this yacht seems to have lost that dash and smart appearance which helped in the past to land her an easy winner in her races; but as windward work has not been a feature of any of the raceß held in tho harbor this racing season, a good full-sail nor*-easter may help her to retrieve her lest laurels. Commodore Nees, of the Otago Yacht Club, with his smart Lozier oil launch, followed the boats round the course with the Sailing Committee and a large party of lady friends aboard—a trip that was_ greatly enjoyed by all who had the privilege of going. Mr J. Blackiq had charge of the shore arrangements, and was assisted by Messrs E. Mullinger (starter), J. M'Pherson (timekeeper), and H. E. Moller (handicapper). Results:— Second Class Yachts.—Vera (scratch) 1. First Class Yachts.—lrex (scratch), 4h 54min 2sec, 1; Waimana (scratch), 5h Omin 12sec, 2; Ventura (3min), 6h 6min 30sec, 3. Also started: Eileen (scratch) and Lenncx Lass (4min).
