PORT CHALMERS SAILING CLUB
Tho first of the club races for 1905 was got off on Saturday, when all three classes competed. A light north-east breeze blew at tic start, gradually dying away in the second round,, till it became a question of drifting rather than sailing. Later a sou'wester sprang up, and allowed the races to be finished. In the First. Class 20ft Race the three boats. racing got a good start, and for a time kept well together, when Bronze-wing got a decided lead, from Runa and Maytowns, but lost it in the calm. At the finish Runa crossed tho line well ahead' of Bronzewing, Maytowns giving up. Results : Runa (scratch), 2h 25mm> 1; Bronzewing (4min 30sec), 2h 33sec, 2. Second Class 20ft Race.—From tho start Rose led to the idand, after which it was very even sailing between Rosie, May, and Shamrock. After one round these boats also experienced' the loss of wind felt by the others, and found difficulty in finishing. Tho times were: May (2min 50sec), 2h 27min; Rosie (lmin 20sec), 2b 28min; Shamrock (40sec), 2h 28min 3sec A protest ha* been lodged against Shamrock in this race, which has not yet been decided. 16ft Rase.—Vision and 'Vigdlant got away woll, but Hornet had very bad luck, starting late, and then having to put back, for repairs, so she was practically out of it all along. Vigilant ledi all the way, and got home about five minutes ahead of Vision. Ma Pakau started to come round, but the wind' failed, aind she went home. Results: Vigilant (scratch), 2h 26min 45sec, 1; Vision (20sec), 2h 31min, 30seo, 2; Hornet (2min 30sec), 3.
