Mr and Mrs a Holdsworth, of this CStv, are passengers by the Aparima, which arrived at Auckland yesterday from Calcutta.

Mr William Sinclair, who has been a resident in Dunedin some forty-seven years, died very suddenly yesterday morning. The deceased, who was in his eightyninth year, had recently been under medical attention for the usual infirmities consequent on his advanced age. The remains of the late Mr Bendix Hallenstein were conveyed to their last rest-ing-place, the Jewish portion of the Southern Cemetery, yesterday, the Rev. A. T. Chodowskl officiating at the grave. The funeral was attended by the relatives of the deceased, a yery large* number of the Jewish community in Dunedin, and the heads of_ the departments of the various businesses with which Mr Halkmstehi had been connected.

A Wellington message states that Mr Jas. S. Cross, well known in shipping circles at Wellington and Nelson, di«l in tho hospital there last night from paralysis. A Templar's funeral was accorded to the late Sis. Nellie Whale, daughter of Mr M. Whale, C.T. of the Hope of Dunedin Lodge, yesterday afternoon. A large numbsr of the members of the Order preceded tho hearse to the Southern Cemetery, clothed in the regalia of their lodges. * At the grave the church Eervice was performed by the Rev. J. Ward, and the Central Mission choir (led by Mr Don), of which the had been a member, sang some impropriate hymns. The Templar service was carried out in an impressive manner by the D.D.G.C.T. (Bro. SandDands), Bro. D. C. Cameron," G.S., and Bro. Smyth, L.D. Particulars of'the death at Durban on November 15 of Mr A. F. W. Hill, formerly of Dunedin, are supplied by the Natal' Mercury.' The late Mr Hill was born at St. Bathans, Central Otago, in 1889, and was educated and received his business training at Dunedin. He left New Zealand in- May, 1901, in charge of remounts for the New Zealand Contingents, and on arrival in South Africa joined Kitchener's Scouts, with-whom he served till stricken with enteric fever, towards the end of the war. After his recovery he was employed at Messrs Champion and Co.'?, in Durban, and later joined the staff of Messrs Randies Bros, and Hudson, in whose service he was when ho took ill. He was one of the founders and also secretary of the New Zealand Football Club in Durban, and was an active member of the Durban Bowling Club. Before going to South Africa he was a member of the Dunedin Pirates' Football Club, and at one time held the amateur cyclist championship of New Zealand. For some months previous to his death he was a member of the Durban Light Infantry, and by them he was accorded a military funeral." Death was caused by peritonitis, following an operation for appendicitis.

Constable Williamson has been transfered to Wellington. "His place here has been taken by Constable Matheron, of Wellington. At the circuit quarterly meeting of Trinity Methodist Church the offer of Dr Tony-late principal of Way College, Adelaide, to conduct a mission during the winter months was unanimously accepted. The minister, the Rev. C. H. Laws, was requested to take a holiday, and at the same time to accept a cheque for a handsome amount, so that he could enjoy his holiday. It was reported that the pulpit of the church for the next two Sundays would be occupied bv the Rev. R. J. Murray, of Christchnrch.
