Sir, —One has read with much attention "Protestant's" essay. As he intends to refer to the subject again, will it be presumption to suggest he should verify or withdraw the following sentence j— But it was not on account of doctrinal differences that Luther left the Church of Rome." In order to do so, I would further suggest he should study Luther's letter of October 31, 1517, to Leo X., and the ninety-five propositions he (Luther) published on the door of the splendid church dedicated to All Saints by Frederick, the Elector of Saxony. Luther wholly rejected the doctrine of the power of the Church as an infallible interpreter of the Scriptures; at least, we are told so in the history of the Council of Trent.—l am, etc., F.M.
