BANDS' CARNIVAL.
Now that the time fixed for the Pipe and Citizens' Bands carnival (30th May, winter show week) is drawing near, the Committee are busy completing their plans for successfully carying out the work. The Garrison Hall is being planned out, and it has been decided that to suit the public convenience the refreshment stall shall be downstairs, and so tave the crushing on the staircase, which has been a drawback on previous occasions. The various stallholders and their assistants are working hard to provide the goods required, and a gentleman's stall is being made a special feature of the bazaar. Attractive new dances are being arranged by Miss Hamann, and one or more matinees will be given during the week, so that country visitors may have every opportunity of seeing them. Competitions (which will be duly advertised) will be numerous and novel. One will be for the best lady's fancy dress, in which the cost will be considered as well as the effect. Mr J. A. Park has promised the prize for this.
