ATTEMPTED MURDER.
WOODVILLE, April 9. The case against George England, of Maharahara, settler, for the attempted murder of his wife and Thomas Nicholas, cam© on to-day before Mr James, S.M. The evidence went to show that England had been drinking, and was always jealous of his wife. When in drink he made certain accusations against her, and struck her. Nicholas interfered. England then got a gun, and Mrs England, Nicholas, and the children left the house. England was alleged to have fired three shots, but they did not strike anyone. Accused, who reserved his defence, wan committed for trial at Napier. Bail was refused.
