AGRICULTURAL INTERESTS.

Press Association—Bv Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, April 16. (Received April 17, at 9.24 a-m.) A Chamber of Agriculture has been formed, with the object of protecting the general interests of the producers of the State! A strong representative council was appointed. THE DAIRY INDUSTRY. NEW ZEALAND REGULATIONS TO BE FOLLOWED. SYDNEY, April 17. (Received April 17, at 7.25 a.m.) At a conference of representative dairy farmers the Minister of Agriculture explained the proposed Dairy Industry Bill. It was, he said, practically a copy of the New Zealand Act, which was found to work with such success in that colony. He quoted figures to illustrate this statement. Since the introduction of the Act the New Zealand dairying and cheese industries had gone ahead by leaps and bounds. Deploring the previous decision of the Conference that they did not want a Dairy Bill or Government supervision, he said: “Surely any system of inspection and grading under which the industry had made such progress as in New Zealand would be beneficial. The New Zealand system facilitated business in England, and gave confidence to all who handled their butter. New South Wales, butter had now • to take second place in the English market to New Zealand and Victorian, and ther® was no valid reason why this should be so.” (Received April 17, at 9.17 a.m.) The agricultural show receipts amounted to £6,800, being £I,OOO above those of last year.
