With the present S.W. breeze the barque Port Sonachan, now 116 days out from Glasgow, may be expected at any moment. The steamer Jeseric, now forty-two days out from New York, is also due. The Tara-wera sailed this afternoon for Auckland via the customary way ports. The Ovalan took her departure this afternoon for West Coast via Northern ports in the Koonya’s run. The Te Anau was to leave Lyttelton this afternoon for Dunedin, and may be looked for to-morrow morning. She will remain here until Friday, when she will take up the Talnne’s run.

The Upolu, leaving Oamaru to-night, is due to-morrow. she will sail on the return trip on Monday, as usual. .The Harbor Board are making progress with the work of excavating and enlarging the basin off the Victoria wharf, so that steamers may have more room in which to swing. The old beacon has been taken up to facilitate the dredging operations. Its place will be taken by a temporary buoy, moored further out. The Canterbury from Liverpool via Wellington, broke bulk yesterday, and is steadily getting rid of her cargo. The Sarah and Mary is now clear of her cargo, and has started to take in ballast for the return trip north. The collier Boveric is getting on well with the discharge of her cargo. It is expected that she will have put out about 2,000 tons of her total of 2,500 by tomorrow. Subsequently she is to load with grain. THE DIRECT STEAMERS.

THE S.S. SHAMROCK,

SYDNEY, April 16.—The Marine Court found that the wreck of the steamer Shamrock was due to the second officer mistaking the orders of the captain and the default of the chief engineer (Henderson) in not taking more effective measures to move the engines. The Court has called upon Henderson to show cause why his certificate should not be suspended.
